A SAILING TIMELINE:

1976 Malaga, Spain. While backpacking in Southern Spain (Costa Del Sol) saw first "Cruising" sailboat and spoke to its owners. The idea was born but seemed totally unattainable.

1979 Returned to U.S. by air and started working in Television Production in order to earn enough cash to buy a boat.

1979 Bought first boat 'Pacific Pearl' in Marina Del Rey, California and sailed to The Santa Barbara Channel Islands many, many times to prepare for longer trips.

1979 First attempt to sail from California to Hawaii. Failure. Dragged back to California by the U.S. Coast Guard.

1979 Second attempt California to Hawaii. Success.

1980 Sailed from Hawaii to The Marshall Islands.

1980 Returned the boat to Hawaii via Johnston Island and sold it.

1980 Returned to work in Television Production.

1982 Purchased 'Mas Alegre', Spanish for 'More Fun' and it was.

1984 Sailed California to New Zealand, with Richard Gabel, 19, through the South Pacific. Itinerary: Ventura, California, Hawaii, Tahiti, Tonga, New Zealand.

1985 Mas Alegre returned to California from New Zealand as deck cargo via ship.

1987 to 1993 Sailed with Julie Spencer, 30, a six year circumnavigation.

(1992 bought first GPS by Trimble. Retired my sextant forever).

Itinerary ('87 to '93) California, Hawaii, Palmyra, American Samoa, Western Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Hermit Islands, Palau, Philippines, Hong Kong, Sumatra, Chagos Archipelago, Seychelles, Madagascar, South Africa, Saint Helena Island, Ascension Island, Fernando De Noronya Island (Brazil), Natal, Brazil, Grenada, Martinique, Saint Martin, Saba, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, San Blas Islands, Panama, Las Perlas Islands (Panama), Costa Rica, Cocos Island (Costa Rica), Acapulco, Mexico, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, San Diego, California, Los Angeles, California, Santa Barbara, California.

1997-1999 California, Hawaii, Ketchikan, Alaska, Victoria, British Columbia, Seattle, Washington, Victoria B.C., San Francisco, California, Santa Barbara, California.

2000-2002 Santa Barbara, California to French Polynesia. Stopped at the Marquesas, Tuamotus, Tahiti. Suvorov Atoll, Tonga (Vavau group), Fiji to New Zealand and back (3 times), New Caledonia, Australia (Queensland).

2003-2005 Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Hermit Islands, Palau, Philippines, Hong Kong, Tioman Island, Malaysia, Singapore, Langkawi Island, Malaysia, Phuket, Thailand. Phew!
